How Benefit Badger works
Benefit Badger is an eligibility-assistance tool. You answer questions. We compare them with structured rules for UK benefits, including differences between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We then show you what may apply and how to claim through official government pages.
Rules first, AI second
Eligibility matching is deterministic. Claude can help explain results and keep benefit information up to date, but it is not the source of truth. Official government pages always win.
Nightly verification
Every night at 03:15 UK time we fetch the official source for each benefit — the GOV.UK Content API where it exists — hash the page, and record a revision. When that check succeeds we stamp last verified on the guide. That is a verification date, not a promise that a rate was recalculated. The editorial policy explains rates, tax years and corrections.
Independence
This is not a UK Government service. We are not affiliated with HMRC, DWP or GOV.UK. We never invent phone numbers or application URLs. Only the relevant department can confirm eligibility and make a payment.
Your privacy
Individual reports are private. We do not publish questionnaire answers. You can delete saved reports and your account at any time. See the privacy policy and contact page.
Supporting the site
The check is free, carries no adverts, and is paid for by the people who use it. If it helped you, you can buy me a coffee (opens in new tab). It is optional and changes nothing about your report. How the site is funded explains what the money covers.
