Does Adult Disability Payment affect Universal Credit?

Adult Disability Payment is not means-tested. It is generally ignored as income for Universal Credit in the same way as PIP. It can still change other entitlements, for example by helping a carer qualify for Carer Support Payment.

You cannot usually get PIP and Adult Disability Payment at the same time for the same period. If you move nation, follow the official transfer rules on GOV.UK and mygov.scot rather than running two claims.

How to claim

  1. Apply through Social Security Scotland. Adult Disability Payment is claimed on mygov.scot, not through PIP. You can apply online or follow the official alternative routes on that page. Official page
  2. Describe daily living and mobility in your own words. Like PIP, the decision is about how your condition affects you. Social Security Scotland’s form asks about a typical day, not only diagnoses.
  3. Use the supporting information they ask for. The official page lists what evidence helps. Do not pay a claims company for a form that Social Security Scotland already provides free.
  4. Ask for a redetermination if you disagree. Scottish disability benefits have a redetermination process before an appeal. The decision letter explains how and by when.
