Pension Age Disability Payment (PADP)

A Social Security Scotland payment for people of State Pension age who need help with personal care because of a disability or health condition. It replaced Attendance Allowance for people living in Scotland.

How much you could get

PADP has a lower weekly rate and a higher weekly rate, matching the Attendance Allowance structure. Confirm live amounts on mygov.scot.

Figures below are for the 2026/27 tax year.

  • Lower rate: £76.70 a week
  • Higher rate: £114.60 a week

Who can claim

You usually need to live in Scotland, have reached State Pension age, and need help with personal care or supervision during the day or night. It is not means-tested and is not based on National Insurance contributions.

When it may not apply

Pension Age Disability Payment is for people living in Scotland. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland the equivalent new claim is Attendance Allowance. People under State Pension age should look at Adult Disability Payment or PIP.

How to claim

  1. Apply on mygov.scot. Pension Age Disability Payment replaced Attendance Allowance for people living in Scotland. Start from the official mygov.scot page. Official page
  2. Explain the help you need. The application asks about daytime and night-time care needs. It is not means-tested and does not depend on National Insurance contributions.
  3. Follow Social Security Scotland’s evidence list. Send what the official page asks for. Keep a copy of anything you post or upload.
  4. Check the decision letter for next steps. If you already get Attendance Allowance and move to Scotland, the official page explains transfer rules. Do not assume the two benefits are claimed the same way.
